Pain in the workplace is estimated to cost employers 61.2 billion per year. That figure comes from the Journal of American Medical Association. 81% of businesses in the United States have some sort of health program at work. Most of these programs are a simple health insurance plan and do not address the most common type of pain, musculoskeletal (muscle pain). Muscle pain is the number one reason workers are absent from work, not as productive as their peers, or leave early and go home.
So what group of individuals are the pain suffers? As you would guess aging workers are on this list but surprisingly people under thirty five are just as likely to have pain as over thirty five.
Lost hours due to reduced productivity, lost hours due to absenteeism, and workers compensation benefits cost American employers on average of $7,500.00 per employee per year. Having an inexpensive first aid program at work has proven to save employers money.
